As a Latinx girl adopted into an Irish American household, Annie Goodchild found her sense of self splintered into many fragments, fragments that would eventually merge to create a sound that is truly her own. A sound that called on an early childhood singing in gospel choirs, memories of Sunday morning jazz and classical radio from her mother, teenage years immersed in 90s R&B, and an early adult life train hopping and hitchhiking across the USA falling hard for gutter punk and american roots music.
Despite this unconscious immersion in the art of sound, it was only by chance one night on a trip to Guatemala, that Annie stood up to sing, off the cuff at an open mic night. Whether it was Central America, the tequila bar or being caught up in the heat of the moment, it gave her the courage to follow a hidden passion - to sing. For the next four years Goodchild moved to Europe to tour with renowned alternative pop band Melou. It was almost half a decade of non stop tours, living in squats, and playing both major and independent festivals. This was followed by Singing in Punch Drunks critically acclaimed hit show "Sleep No More" and working with the highly celebrated Scott Bradlee's Post Modern Jukebox. This challenging and ultimately life changing time culminated in a richer fusion of self and sound - paving the way for the inevitable solo career that was to come. In a single breath Annie Goodchild makes american roots music infused with alternative pop and cinematic influences. Unbound by the shackles of genre, what is left is the striking semblance of a rare and honest performance. A performance that snags on the heart and captures the delicate storm of cultural paths etched across our world.
